What to do with Jack?

An easy way to dispose of your Halloween pumpkin is to include it in your organics and yard waste container for collection on Tuesday November 4, 2025. Loose pumpkins left at the curb are extremely difficult to pick up by hand.

The Comox Strathcona Waste Management (CSWM) service is encouraging residents to do the right thing with their carved pumpkin after Halloween. When a pumpkin ends up in the landfill it does not break down as it would in a compost pile.

Please do not leave them near roads/highways near on/off ramps. Pumpkins left near roadways can be a danger to wildlife and the community.

The British Columbia Conservation Officer Service recommends only putting out pumpkins on Halloween and bringing them in at night before disposing of them properly – especially if you live in a neighbourhood with bear activity. Make sure the only guest on your front porch is a trick-or-treater! WildSafeBC
