Letter of Support to K’ómoks First Nation

Posted on

Dear Chief Councillor Ken Price,

The Council of Cumberland joins the K’ómoks First Nation in your stance against events and actions that promote hate, division, and racism in our community. The Village’s values are based on respect, inclusion, collaboration, and leadership and the Village lends its support to your position on recent events held in the territory.

In response to your press release, all Cumberland Council members expressed their support for a statement in support made at Council’s regular meeting on October 30, 2023. As well, the Village does not permit events in Village facilities and on Village property that exclude or otherwise discriminate against people for any reason, including but not limited to age, ethnicity, religion, physical ability, sexual orientation, and gender identity/expression.

The Village of Cumberland values the unique history, culture, and traditions of Indigenous peoples and we are committed to reconciliation and building positive relationships with Indigenous communities.

Yours sincerely,

Vickey Brown
Mayor
