Cumberland Fire Chief Retires After 52 Years of Service

Fire Chief Mike Williamson has announced his retirement following 52 years of dedicated service to the Cumberland community. After 38 years of volunteer service with Cumberland Fire Rescue, including serving as president of the Cumberland Firefighters Society, Williamson has held the position of Manager of Protective Services for the Village since 2012.
“Mike has contributed so much to our Fire Department it is impossible to define his impact,” says Cumberland Mayor Vickey Brown. “Mike brought in training programs to meet today’s standards to ensure firefighters have the expertise to do their jobs safely and to a high standard. Mike has always been a champion of school programs that help keep our children safe and he also brought in the first responder medical program and the auto-extrication program to diversify firefighter skills and support highway vehicle rescue. The Chief advocated to Council for funds to construct a new fire hall when the timing was right for the community. We are grateful for his lifetime of service.”
The community is welcome to celebrate Mike’s career and congratulate him on his retirement at an open house at the Cumberland Fire Rescue Hall, 4724 Cumberland Road, on September 29, 2026, from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m.
