Active Transportation Backgrounder Released

Posted on

The Village of Cumberland completed an Active Transportation Backgrounder that is now available to the public. The backgrounder includes a policy review, active transportation facilities inventory, and results of the community survey last fall.

The survey was opened for 3 weeks in November and December 2021 and received 448 responses. The backgrounder will be a resource for the Transportation Master Plan update planned for later in 2022.

“I am encouraged by the high number of responses to this survey. Thank you to everyone who took the time to share your experience as a citizen moving around the Village, and your ideas for the future.” said Mayor Leslie Baird. “The data collected through the survey will help to plan and prioritize future improvements to the active transportation network and plan for future population growth.”

The survey aimed to understand how community members travel through the Village of Cumberland, and what are barriers, opportunities, and priorities for transportation and mobility in the community. Improving road safety for all users was the most important outcome identified by survey respondents, followed by improving environmental outcomes, and improving public health. These responses show strong desire for improved active transportation and traffic calming or road safety measures.

The Active Transportation Backgrounder is available on the Village website https://cumberland.ca/plans/ under the Roads and Transportation section.
