BC Hydro has upgraded the public warning system for high flows in the Puntledge River. A second round of siren testing for the new system will take place Wednesday, September 27.
The Puntledge River is the location of a BC Hydro hydroelectric system. Flow changes in the river can be dangerous to those on or near the river, and they may be planned or unplanned.
Residents are advised to stay away from Puntledge River on September 27 for the siren testing. Strobe light testing will take place September 25 and 26.
Upgrades to the warning system include a new siren sound, strobe lights, and upgraded water gauges. The new siren will be easier to hear on the river, but is intended to reduce disturbance to nearby residents.
