Broombusters Volunteer Event

Saturday, May 31 – 9:30am to 12:00pm

Along the Colliery Trail by the old Chinatown

Join the Comox Valley Broombusters on Saturday May 31st from 9:30am to 12:00pm meet at Jumbo’s Cabin (look for the Broombuster sign across from the parking lot, we will be a short distance along the trail and off to the right) to cut ‘broom in bloom’ with other local volunteers. Loppers (tool) and instructions will be provided but please bring appropriate clothing, sturdy footwear, and gloves.

Scotch broom is a pervasive invasive that has spread throughout Vancouver Island. It especially loves disturbed soils and grows into thick thickets that outcompete any other native species. By removing broom while it’s flowering (in bloom) we help weaken the root system while it puts its energy into flower and seed production.

All ages welcome. Rain or shine.
