Broombusters Volunteer Event

May 18 – 9:30am to 12:00pm

Nikkei Park (west of the new firehall)

Join the Comox Valley Broombusters on Saturday May 17th from 9:30am to 12:00pm at Nikkei Park to cut ‘broom in bloom’ with other local volunteers. Loppers (tool) and instructions will be provided but please bring appropriate clothing, sturdy footwear, and gloves.

Scotch broom is a pervasive invasive that has spread throughout Vancouver Island. It especially loves disturbed soils and grows into thick thickets that outcompete any other native species. By removing broom while it’s flowering (in bloom) we help weaken the root system while it puts its energy into flower and seed production.

All ages welcome. Rain or shine.
