Council Corner May 2026
Posted on
In late March, Council members revisited the Village’s Transportation Master Plan and future improvements to the networks to better understand shared streets, laneway treatments and traffic calming. One example is the redesign of Maryport Avenue from First to Seventh Street as a pilot “shared street” creating a traffic calmed space safe for all ages to walk and cycle, along with vehicles. A multi-use pathway is planned along the Royston Road corridor and laneways will stay gravel when practical. Council will explore implementing a 30m/h speed zone throughout the Village.
Council members had a constructive meeting with MLA Osborne to discuss community issues including funding for drinking water infrastructure, affordable housing, Bevan industrial economic development, input on Comox Valley Parkway and interchange and intersection design, and policing costs for our community.
In April, Council members attended their annual convention in Victoria where they advocate to the Province on community concerns and learn from local governments in the Vancouver Island and Sunshine Coast Area.
Council has been carefully reviewing tax rate ratios between the residential, business, industrial and forestry property classes in preparation for setting 2026 property tax rates.
