Nick and his family moved to Cumberland in 2009 and quickly recognized that this village is somewhere very special. Nick and his wife Gesa have raised their two children here and intend to stay in Cumberland for the rest of their lives. Born and raised in north-eastern England, he is drawn to Cumberland’s welcoming community, roots in coal mining and the labour movement, proximity to precious forest, ocean and mountain ecosystems, and a tradition of navigating tremendous social and economic change.

Since moving to the village, Nick has been a business owner and employer, running downtown businesses and contributing to the start-up and operation of many enterprises. Throughout his career, he has worked in engineering and project management, business performance management, carbon accounting and climate action planning, software development, and marketing and communications.

Elected to Cumberland Council in 2024, Nick previously sat on the Economic Development Steering Committee, Official Community Plan Local Citizens Advisory Group, and chaired the Advisory Planning Commission from 2019 to 2024. He has served on the Board of Cumberland Community Schools Society as Secretary, Treasurer and Chair, on the Board of Dawn to Dawn Action on Homelessness Society, and as chair of the NIC Advisory Committee for Digital Design and Development.

Educated in England, Nick holds Bachelors and Masters degrees in Engineering from the University of Cambridge and a diploma in Business Administration from Henley Business School. He was granted Canadian citizenship in 2015 and is an experienced offshore and coastal sailor, a volleyball player, and enjoys nordic skiing on Mt Washington throughout the winter.

Nick very much enjoys hearing from, listening to and talking with Cumberland residents, and welcomes respectful and open communication by text or email.
