Cumberland Chinatown and Chinese Cemetery have been nominated to Heritage BC‘s Chinese Historic Places Recognition Project.

The Village recognizes Cumberland’s historic Chinatown and the Chinese Cemetery as historic places associated with the history of the Chinese community in British Columbia that are important to our community.

The Chinese Historic Places Recognition Project celebrates British Columbia’s diversity, and recognizes and acknowledges the contributions of Chinese Canadians in British Columbia – both past and present – to the prosperity and diversity of the province. The Chinese Historic Places Recognition Project is an outcome of the Chinese Historical Wrongs Consultation, where many participants expressed the hope that Chinese Canadian cultural history could be preserved in perpetuity.
