Cumberland Receives Grant Funding for Economic Development

The Village of Cumberland has been awarded $80,000 on behalf of the Ministry of Forests, Lands, Natural Resource Operations and Rural Development (FLNRORD).

The funding, provided through the Rural Dividend Program will be utilized by the Village to implement two priority projects within the Cumberland Economic Development Strategy 2018-2023, notably:

  • Cumberland Investment Attraction Action Plan – Focused on attracting sustainable and complementary non-residential investment opportunities throughout the Village, the Investment Attraction Action Plan will look to build upon the commercial and industrial strengths and opportunities that exist within the Village by identifying actions/strategies focused on increasing the community’s economic development capacity, resiliency and community strength.
  • Economic Development Web–portal – The Web-portal will an opportunity for the Village to create a more business friendly environment that facilitates local entrepreneurial spirit, business growth, and investment opportunity. The economic development web-portal will be an essential tool that will offer an online means for the Village to provide comprehensive economic development information and promote business and/or investment opportunities within the Village.

This recent funding decision builds on the successful relationship formed between the Village and the Rural Dividend Program. Since 2016, funding from the Rural Dividend Program has supported the Village in identifying an in-house economic development model for the community, including the development of the Cumberland Economic Development Strategy, the recent hiring of the Economic Development Coordinator as well as the formation/facilitation of the Economic Development Steering Committee.
