On January 27, 2015, the Village gave notice of its intent to withdraw from the Comox Valley Regional District economic development service, currently provided under contract by the Comox Valley Economic Development Society.
Since that time, the Minister of Community, Sport and Cultural Development directed that the parties to the service participate in a negotiation session, which took place in August 2015.
In September, Cumberland Council requested that the Minister consider the option of directing the parties to the economic development service to engage in mediation respecting the terms and conditions of withdrawal.
The process for withdrawal from a regional district service is mandated by provincial legislation set out in Part 24 of the Local Government Act and is directed by the Minister.
