Fire Department Recognized by the Community and the Fire Commissioner’s Office

Posted on

Cumberland fire rescue has been awarded a commendation from the Fire Commissioner’s Office of BC for a fire rescue which happened in May 2012.

Chief Williamson says that the way the fire department was recognized for this a commendation is very special to the members. Cumberland shop owners and businesses in the village set out petitions and asked residents of Cumberland sign them. The petitions were then mailed to the Fire Commissioner’s Office asking that their Fire Department be recognized.

Members feel very humbled by this recognition. The Department has won many awards in auto extrication and other events, but to be recognized by the people you serve in this way is over the top. I can’t think of anything that would mean more to our members than being recognized by the people you serve and protect. The membership was very touched by this commendation, not so much for the rescue as these kinds of things happen many times over the years in our department and other departments and go unrecognized. This plaque symbolizes residents’ appreciation for us and the efforts we make on their behalf and will be treasured by our members for years to come.

Chief Williamson believes this to be the first time in Cumberland’s Fire Departments history that it has had a commendation from the BC Fire Commissioner’s Office.
