Glass and Foam Packaging Disposal Affected by BC Flooding

Posted on

Residents are asked not to bring glass and foam packaging to waste depots.

Due to the unprecedented flooding, resulting transportation challenges and limited access to end markets, RecycleBC has made a temporary change to the collection of some materials.

What this means for us: Starting November 22, 2021 glass and foam packaging (both white & coloured) will no longer be picked up from Recycle BC Depots.

For now, Comox Strathcona Waste Managerment will continue to collect paper, cardboard, containers (plastic and metal), plastic bags and overwrap, and other flexible plastic packaging from depots as well as accept paper, cardboard and containers from curbside and multi-family collector. These are materials that can be baled and stored in a more compact manner at receiving facilities.

We are asking the public to please hang onto their glass and foam recyclables until the situation improves and the service resumes.
