In Honour of James F. “Stocky” Edwards

Posted on

The flags at the Village of Cumberland have been lowered in honour of Stocky Edwards, Canada’s last living World War II Flying Ace, who recently passed away in the Comox Valley at the age of 100.

In addition to a distinguished military career, Stocky earned numerous awards and achievements including the Order of Canada in 2004, the Canadian Aviation Hall of Fame in 2013, and France’s Legion of Honour in 2014.

Stocky was also an important fixture in the Comox Valley, known for his humility, kindness and dedication to community service. In 2015, was awarded with the City of Courtenay’s honour of “Freedom of the City” in 2015.

“The Village of Cumberland sends our condolences to Stocky’s family and loved ones and shares our gratitude for the legacy of honour and service Stocky provided the Comox Valley.” Mayor Leslie Baird.
