New Youth Program at Cumberland Recreation

Posted on

Cumberland Recreation would like to extend a big thank you to the Comox Valley Community Foundation for their support in creating free youth programs in Cumberland. Their donation was used to purchase an inflatable obstacle course that will be available to rent for birthday parties. All proceeds go to supporting a free “Youth Drop-in Gym” program and other low cost youth recreation.

“Youth Drop-in Gym” is a free weekly program that provides a safe space for youth to drop in, play sports and connect with friends. The program runs Wednesdays from 3 to 5 pm for youth ages 10 to 15 years. Youth are invited to come and play basketball, soccer, floor hockey, dodgeball or rip around on plasma cars. “Youth Drop-in Gym” is happening now until the end of June. As well, the inflatable obstacle course will be used in collaboration with other agencies for various free special event such as Pop up in the Park, Valley Families, ValleyDads Night Out and Teen Nights.

Comox Valley Community Foundation has previously supported Cumberland Recreation’s free Parent and Tot Gym program. Creating affordable sport and recreation programs was identified as a top priority in the Comox Valley 2016 Vital Signs. Thanks to support from the Comox Valley Community Foundation and other partnerships, Cumberland Recreation is increasing programming that is affordable and engages a diverse and broad segment of the community in a sustainable manner.
