Cumberland Closes Parking Lots at Parks and Trailheads in Response to COVID-19

Cumberland, BC – The Village of Cumberland is asking residents of the Comox Valley to recreate close to home and keep safe distances from each other when outside to help break the chain of transmission of COVID-19 as directed by BC Health Officer.

“With people looking to get outdoors we’ve had a surge of visitors to the community,” said Mayor Leslie Baird. “While we appreciate that people are looking to maintain their quality of life, it is essential that everyone stay home as much as possible and follow the social distancing measures in place. To support these measures we feel obliged to close certain Cumberland parking lots with the hope people will make the decision to remain close to home.”

The following Village of Cumberland parking lots will be closed effective immediately:

  • Cumberland Recreation Centre parking lot
  • BMX parking lot at Village Park
  • Coal Creek Historic Park parking lots (Jumbo’s Cabin, Lower Chinatown Historic Site)

The parks and trails remain open at this time. We ask that all users adhere to the directives for social (physical) distancing and other measures recommended by the BC Centre for Disease Control including:

  • Stay home when you are sick.
  • Limit activities outside your home.
  • Keep 2 metres between yourself and others when in public places.

Public washrooms remain open with increased cleaning frequency in order to provide hand washing and washroom facilities for those in need.
