Regional Warming Centres to be Activated Tonight, Friday, February 20th

Stay warm tonight from 10pm to 6am at the Cumberland Cultural Centre

With tonight’s overnight temperatures expected to be low, combined with a snowfall warning for the region, provincial funding has been authorized for the activation of warming centres in the Comox Valley.

Upon the recommendation of Comox Valley Emergency Management (CVEM), Village staff have approved the activation of Cumberland’s warming centre from 10:00 p.m. tonight until 6:00 a.m. Saturday morning. The warming centre is located in Buchanan Hall, first floor of the Cumberland Cultural Centre.
Warming centres are a provincially funded resource intended to provide a dry, safe space for local residents who need to escape the cold. They offer seating, snacks, washrooms, security, and cleaning services but do not provide sleeping areas, cots, or mats.

For more information about warming centres, including the locations of other activations in the Comox Valley, please refer to the CVRD Warming Centres webpage.
