Reminder: Official Community Plan Review – First Round Due July 11
Posted on
Cumberland’s Official Community Plan (OCP) is under review and the Village is looking for input from residents!
Public engagement for the OCP review kicked off with a Plan your Community Street Event on May 24, 2023. Over 175 participants participated, engaged in discussions, and responded to discussion questions on a series of poster boards.
If you were not able to participate in the May 24 event, you can still provide input into this first round of consultations online at connectcumberland.ca. The online tools allow you to:
- share your favourite places in the Village
- add your long-term vision for Cumberland, and
- identify issues you would like to discuss during the next round of public engagement.
To view the many comments received at the May 24 event, access the poster boards at connectcumberland.ca.
Online comments provided by July 11 will be included in the Phase 1 Engagement Summary report to Council. But no panic, if received after that date, the comments will still be reviewed and inform the discussion topics for Phase 2 public engagement.
Background
The OCP lays out the long-term vision to guide growth and change in the community over the next 10 years and beyond. The OCP also sets priorities for housing, climate change, economic development, transportation and mobility, infrastructure, heritage protection, arts and culture, food systems, parks and recreation, environmental protection and overall community well-being.
Initial engagement sought input on a long-term vision for the community and identification of topics that residents would like to explore as part of the OCP review.
During the fall, residents will be asked to engage in discussions on how the Village grows and adapts to change. Public engagement will explore goals and policies for future land use in the Village, how to manage growth, provide affordable housing, respond to climate change, further economic development, preserve our heritage, identify priorities for the park system, and more.
