Trails Forum and Builders Academy Coming to Cumberland

Posted on

The United Riders of Cumberland and the Village of Cumberland are co-presenting two upcoming events that will focus on recreational access to Cumberland’s trails, most of which wind their way across privately owned land.

Trails Forum
Wednesday March 5th at 7:00 pm
Cumberland Cultural Centre

On March 5th, a Community Trails Forum will be held at the Cumberland Cultural Center. Land access agreements and their benefits will be introduced, and an update will be provided on the ongoing discussions with landowners. Mark Wood, Program Manager from the North Shore Mountain Bike Association will also share his experience on working with landowners to ensure access is maintained and all parties benefit.

The Trails Forum will include a Q & A with Wood and UROC directors, and preliminary plans and design of the Cumberland Jump Park will also be a topic of discussion.

As per UROC’s mandate, the focus of the discussion will be on non-motorized access; however, all interested parties are invited to attend.

This is a free event and no RSVP is required.

Builders Academy
Tuesday, March 4th from 7 to 9 p.m.
Riding Fool Hostel

One day earlier, on Tuesday, March 4, active and aspiring trail builders are invited to participate in Cumberland’s first ever Builders Academy, scheduled for 7 to 9 p.m. at the Riding Fool Hostel.

Also facilitated by Mark Wood, the Academy will teach participants how to assess and create sustainable solutions on existing trails and build progressive trails that last in our West Coast climate while also protecting our unique environment. The presentation will also discuss a move toward a higher level of organization among trail builders and advocates.

The Builders Academy is free, but space is limited. RSVP to Kevin McPhedran, Parks and Recreation Coordinator at the Village, at 250-336-2291.
