At the next regular council meeting on November 26, Cumberland Council will consider options for increasing water and sewer utility rates for 2013. Options may include incremental or averaged annual rate increases in order to avoid significant future rate increases for capital projects.
To sustain the current Village infrastructure, resources equal to amortization should be allocated annually at $96,000 for water, $76,000 for sanitary sewer and $75,000 for storm sewer. Capital works include annual collection system upgrades, water source dam stability, and ultraviolet UV water treatment. Council will look at funding of capital reserves for infrastructure improvements to the water and sewer collection and treatment systems through utility fees.
Council recently determined that it will postpone consumption based fees for water until 2014 and continue with flat rate fees for water in 2013 in order to collect more data though water meters.Search again
