Posted on
Strategically located in the beautiful Comox Valley on Vancouver Island, the Village of Cumberland is a progressive and growing municipality known for its unique mixture of heritage architecture, proximity to outstanding outdoor recreation and world-class arts and music. Home to 3800 residents, Cumberland is the youngest and fastest growing municipality in the Comox Valley, with the number of children under 15 years of age above both the provincial and federal average.
The Village has experienced significant growth in recent years, with 1300 Cumberland residents having moved to the community between 2011 and 2016 (meaning almost 1/3 of the population are new residents). The Official Community Plan indicates that known development could bring more that 4,000 new housing units in future years, and that the population could reach 8,500 by 2030.
Recognizing the impact of this growth the Village is looking to attract a progressive and accomplished professional as its Manager of Development Services. Reporting to the Chief Administrative Officer and a key member of the senior management team, the Manager of Development Services is responsible for planning, coordinating, monitoring, and controlling the activities and business affairs of the planning and building departments for the Village.
The position is responsible for the development and implementation of the Official Community Plan, Zoning and other planning related bylaws, studies and policies; the planning, development, implementation and monitoring of heritage and sustainability projects and initiatives; conceptual parks planning and the processing of development applications, along with the enforcement of the provincial building and plumbing codes and implementation and enforcement of municipal bylaws relating to building construction.
To qualify you will have a University Degree in Land Use Planning or a related discipline, along with considerable (5-7 years) experience in the community planning field with related experience at a management level in a local government setting. An equivalent combination of education, training and experience may be considered.
This is a unique opportunity to become part of a progressive municipal organization. The Village offers a competitive salary and a comprehensive benefits package and the opportunity to work with an outstanding team. View the job description for this position here.
