Geotechnical Work Taking Place for Cumberland Road Project

Posted on

In preparation for the Cumberland and Bevan Road upgrade project, geotechnical and test pit digging are taking place on June 6 and June 7, 2016 on the north side of Cumberland Road alongside Maple Creek. Expect minor traffic delays along Cumberland Road.

The geotechnical investigations will help to determine the best option for widening the roadway through the wetland area. This is a challenging setting because the ground conditions required particular engineering to ensure they will remain sturdy in the long-term. Widening this roadway though, to add a shoulder and bike lane is a priority for this project’s plan. In the meantime – a grant application was completed and submitted to Bike BC for funding assistance for bike lane access.

Updated plans are expected to be complete soon and will be presented at an open house on Wednesday, June 22, 2016 from 5 to 7 pm in the Council Chambers.
