The Village of Cumberland is excited to announce the hiring of Kaelin Chambers as Cumberland Economic Development Coordinator.

Originally from Powell River, Kaelin, his wife and 9 year old son moved to Cumberland from Vancouver three years ago. Kaelin has 10 years of experience in undertaking socio-economic assessment and community engagement, particularly in relation to resource management and environmental planning and policy. Kaelin was also co-chair of the Economic Development Steering Committee which contributed to Cumberland’sEconomic Development Strategy 2018-2023.

“Working in both fields of socio-economic assessment and community engagement has afforded me a holistic understanding of how programs, policies and developments interact with local communities and economies,” said Kaelin Chambers. “I’m very excited for the opportunity to work for the Village of Cumberland and look forward to identifying and facilitating economic growth that is consistent with our community values.”

As Economic Development Coordinator, Kaelin will be the main point of contact for businesses and non-profits in Cumberland, while providing ongoing services in the support, retention and expansion of existing local businesses. He is also responsible for working closely with Village staff, Council and the Economic Development Steering Committee to implement the Cumberland Economic Development Strategy.

“I’m glad we’re able to hire an Economic Development Coordinator and bring in resources and experience such as Kaelin’s,” said Mayor Leslie Baird. “This is an important step in implementing the Economic Development Strategy and advancing Cumberland’s economic development interests.”

Funding for the Economic Development Coordinator contract, including the facilitation of the Economic Development Strategy Steering Committee, has been provided through a grant from the Province of British Columbia’s Rural Dividend Fund.

The Village is currently accepting applications from prospective members of a new Economic Development Strategy Committee to provide further guidance and direction to Cumberland’s economic development planning process.
